Africana Studies Major
General Requirements
Credits
The Africana studies major requires the completion of 30 credits. This includes core courses and elective courses as determined by the student’s selection of either the social sciences concentration or the humanities concentration.
Grade requirements: A minimum QPA of 2.0 in departmental courses is required for graduation.
Satisfactory/Audit Option
No course that counts toward the major can be taken on an S/NC basis.
Writing Requirement
Students must complete at least one “W” course in the major. The core course “AFRCNA 1068: Africana Senior Research Seminar” fulfills this requirement.
Related Area
A minimum of 12 credits is required in any one Arts and Sciences department chosen in consultation with the major advisor. The completion of an official Arts and Sciences minor or an Arts and Sciences/UCIS certificate also satisfies this requirement.
Double Major
Students who wish to have a double major should decide in their sophomore year.
