Department of Africana Studies Student Racial Justice and Racial Equity Fund

The recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others have brought larger racial inequities to the forefront of national and even international discourses. Yet, there are few resources available for students interested in research on social justice issues. Moreover, the cost of research is often prohibitively expensive to students, especially since Africana Studies is a discipline which is global and local in scope. For this reason, the Department of Africana Studies has created a Student Racial Justice and Racial Equity fund to help students access funds to support conducting research on racial inequities, including gathering data for their senior thesis or other projects, engaging in first-hand experiences with organizations focused on remedying and addressing racial inequities across a variety of arenas, and broadening their skillset through professional development and leadership opportunities that will enable them to advocate for racial justice in many different careers.
